Llamas are fun, furry, unique, lovable and very memorable. They can be a domestic farm animal or they can be found in the wild. Llamas originated in the Central Plains of North about 40 million years ago. Llama predecessors migrated to South America around 2.5 million years ago, at the end of the ice age. They are the world's oldest domestic animal and is a member of the camel family. High in the Andes Mountain, llamas have been known for helping carry people wares for the last 5,000 to 6,000 years. The Llamas thick coats of wool and honed survival instincts enable them to thrive is some of the worlds most extreme climates. Llamas live for an average of 20-25 years, grow to a weight of 300-450 pounds and a height of up to 6 feet tall. The llama's wool ranges in color from white, cream, brown, grey, shades of red, roan, black in solid and spotted patterns. Llamas are also a favorite animal for collecting.
